HOW TO GO TO EL CALAFATE AND VISIT PERITO MORENO GLACIER

Patagonia Argentina is not only hardly inhabited but it's huge too, so I think you need to know what exactly you want to see there (to help you choosing we published some interesting itineraries in Argentina you can take inspiration from), unless you have months to spend and you can roam at your will, you, lucky thing!

Perito Moreno Glacier is certainly one of the most unmissable sights of Argentina!

To get to Perito Moreno Glacier you need to travel to El Calafate, the nearest and only town in the
area. If you have two options.

You can fly from Buenos Aires to El Calafate. If possible fly from Newberry Airport, if you are already staying in Buenos Aires, as it is much nearer and it would make save you money in taxi and maybe even some sleep.

Alternatively you can also get to El Calafate by large, comfortable, luxury coaches but in my opinion you would waste a lot of time. And everyone I met in Patagonia couldn't put his mind at rest thinking of the travel back by bus, having already being hugely bored coming, the poor fellows couldn't make out how they were going to cope on the way back!

In summer (really the only time to go to Patagonia unless you're a bit mad) flights are fully booked very quickly, so I don't suggest you coming to Argentina thinking to book the flights to Patagonia when there.

From Buenos Aires to El Calafate flights are run by Aerolineas Argentinas, Lan and maybe some other airlines but the two are the ones much known and they are relatively reliable.

You may be entitled to some discounts on your tickets if you have travelled from abroad with Aerolineas Argentinas and you fly to El Calafate with Aerolineas again.
